I don’t understand how the Republicans manage to keep any sort of image of being responsible wardens of our economy or society. All we get from them is recession and war. Under Reagan we saw the decimation of the steel industry, the auto industry, and countless smaller industries. We saw the worst recession since the Great Depression during his first term and also began mortgaging our future to give tax cuts to the rich. The short lived spending orgy of government debt barely financed a fake boom for the wealthier half of our society during his second term while giving us an explosion of homeless families. Bush I gave us a recession and the first Gulf War.

Bush II gave us 9/11 after ignoring countless warnings of the type “Terrorists determined to attack America”. The boom of the Clinton years and record surpluses soon gave way to the record deficits and another republican recession. Bush can’t even manage to get a recovery right. After two years of a “jobless recovery”, he got re-elected to give us a wageless recovery and even that may come to an end soon.
